This post explains my approach to 'pricing' Tarot readings, or in other words, why I offer donation/gift based readings.
It’s fairly easy to assign monetary value to things that are concrete and measurable. We generally understand why gold is more expensive than nylon.
But what about things that are less physical and more human? Art, music, healing, kindness... It would be a seriously depraved person to ask their loved ones to pay them for kindness or love. And we all know the expression 'a sell-out', where the desire for profit eats away into the quality and truth of an artist's creations.
Some might say a Jackson Pollock is just random splashes of paint, yet one can sell for $200 million. Does it's price mean it is automatically of greater value to the human soul? Of course not.
So price does not equal value in any true and real way. The human soul is clearly beyond commodification, despite the never ending struggle for greed to make it otherwise.
So how does this relate to Tarot?
Tarot is highly subjective in its value, many ridicule it, others believe it is evil, and for some it is one of the most central aspects of how they navigate human life, deepen their wisdom and clarify their connection to spiritual guidance.
And so in the spirit of urging the flow of our world towards an honouring of the uncommodifiable, the subjective and the unique, I ask that the reader gives according to the value they receive and within the context of their circumstances. This honours the vastly different ways a tarot reading is received, as well as the differing financial circumstances each has.
I endeavour to conduct my readings from a place of deep respect for the mystery of life, which in my perspective is far beyond any sort of commodification in money, or captured in any thought, concept or idea. I aim to provide true insight for clients, if I achieve this, the fulfilment I receive is a reward in itself.
